I remember clearly when American Beauty was all the rage. “5 Academy Awards in 1999 Including Best Picture.” I don’t say that because I specifically remember it, I say that because it is written on the DVD case and I have just rewatched it.

I remember liking this movie very much. I’ll tell you what, I was somewhat surprised when viewing it eight years later I did not end up liking it much. Obviously the movie hasn’t changed… maybe I have.

American Beauty came out at the height of the “Independent Film” movement and was championed. I think Independent Film since then has surpassed it and my expectations for a movie are higher now. This time around I found it kind of uninteresting. Although, I will have to say I still have high regard for the acting.
